Your Name: Just call me JCServant
Your Location: Sunny Orlando, FL
What you do: I do a lot of work on Wildlight. I'm also the coordinator of Cyberlight.
Your Interests: Drawing (Big surprise!), comics, video games (GC, PS2, PC) and Christian music. I used to collect X-Men comics alot when I was younger. Now, I mostly stick to whatever trade paperback catches my eye in the bookstore. As for video games, I like any game that makes me thing... which includes strategy games, and RPGs to a lesser extent. Occasionally I need to wind down on some less intense in the thinking department such as Street Fighter or Gradius V.
Your Dislikes: Traffic. It's wasted time. With all of the work I need to do, I just HATE wasted time. So, the same goes for most long lines I run into. I also don't care much for the 'social scene' and 'politics' (Such as 'clicks,' gossiping, backstabbing, etc). I mostly keep to myself and the group members on Cyberlight!
Your favorite bands: Carman, Steven Curtis Chapman, Petra and DC talk were huge influences in my life. I still listen to them, but I also listen to other artists like Bob Carlisle, 4 Him, Avalon, etc.
Your favorite writer: This is a toughie. As a rule of thumb, I don't read very much... except for the text that comes up in the video games I play and web pages I surf. I have to say that Winkie Pratney wrote a really good book, "Youth Aflame" that was huge to me. I still have it. The book is completely worn out from me reading it multiple times. I also like "The Purpose Driven Life." It's real popular, I just can't remember who wrote it!!
Your secret origin: I first became a Christian at Pine
Hills Church of God. My mother sent me to Sunday School there. Around the same
time, I became more serious about drawing (This was around 15 years old for
me). At the time, I was collecting X-Men comics.
About four years later, I began to be less interested
in Marvel Comics. Their heroes went through so much, yet they never question
where they came from. The writers totally missed out on important spiritual
issues. So, I decided to start work on a comic that would be similar in scope
to X-Men or Spider Man, but would feature the main character(s) really working
through spiritual issues the way I was as a young person.
The next 6 years or so, I went through a lot of spiritual
battles. I faced many temptations, and failed. However, I also had a lot of
time by myself to search God and grow in the faith. During those years, God
taught me many things through his Word, and many life experiences. I became
stronger through Him.
Around that time, I married. It took me a few years to
get comfortable with married life (And deal with INS!). Now, with a wonderful,
supportive wife by my side, and the foundation of my relationship with God fully
readied, I was prepared to move forward for Him. I began to work seriously on
the vision God had given me many years ago. And, in doing so, He took it further
than I ever imagined. Wildlight became an online comic. And the vision that
I had with Wildlight grew to a website dedicated to driving home spirtually
rich stories through web comics from other artists from all over the world.
And that's where I'm at today!
Your future plans in comics: I work in accounting during
the day, and that takes care of the bills. I really like what I do on Cyberlight
and with Wildlight. I have no intention of going anywhere else, unless the Lord
leads me. I see myself being an active part of Cyberlight for a very long time.
Favorite Bible verse: Phil. 3:14 - I press on toward
the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.
