I’ve been reading manga for almost a decade, both shonen and shoujo
types. I noticed a trend where some manga titles openly approve free sex
and emphasize on the desperation of being the popular one. I did not agree
with such values and couldn’t help wishing for manga with more favorable
and inspiring characters. I looked into doujinshis as an alternate but the
industry proved me wrong. My choices became more limited as time passed.
One day, after reading Kaikan Phrase (NOT recommended, btw) I wondered,
“What would have happened if Sakuya had found Jesus and become a Christian
in the manga instead?” That’s how KingdomCome came about: a
story about a popstar who rejects showbiz to seek his faith. I also include
characters inspired by my real life Christian friends and share my experiences
with the Christian faith. I hope to be down-to-earth, open and frank with
my faith. I believe that there’s nothing wrong with questioning the
faith and confronting controversies. Learning is a lifetime thing.
I first posted manga pages in Christian Anime Alliance (CAA) and the response
was unexpectedly positive. Members encouraged me to move forward. It was
a major step for me. My whole life then, I believed that drawing comics
was a habit I had just randomly cultivated and there was no good purpose
for it. Some Christians even frowned on my comic interests and hinted that
I should give it up so that I could serve God better! Kcome.net was established
and while I was in graduate school, I did my best to make full use of time
drawing in between research work/classes/assignments. I recall drawing manga
pages as late as 3-5 a.m. because I didn’t have the time for it in
the daytime! During my darkest days in graduate research, I was comforted
by the fact that God’s work is still able to move on despite of it
all. Now, that I’m finally out from school, I’m looking forward
to more good times and projects!
